Rabbit; The Empress's Maid-in-waiting

This is a personal project I developed as a fictional 3D animated series, based on the novel "The Empress of Salt and Fortune" by Nghi Vo. My goal was to explore its atmosphere and characters through my own visual storytelling.

Here’s a concept of Rabbit, the serious and hardworking maid-in-waiting to the empress.
The idea was to highlight the contrast between the young Rabbit and the older one, as the book tells the empress’s story through the memories of the now-aged Rabbit. I wanted the younger version to feel like a dream or a memory so I made her more colorful and let the lines crackle to emphasize that nostalgic, almost ethereal quality, whereas the older Rabbit feels more grounded in reality, with more neutral tones.
